Job Summary





The Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the top ranked institutions in the country and ranks as one of the best places to work. The School of Biological Sciences in the College of Sciences invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer faculty position to teach courses in the Institute's Wellness Requirement, beginning May 2023. The successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty with interests in a broad range of wellness initiatives and biological sciences as well as innovative pedagogy and biology education research. While this position is housed in Biological Sciences, we are seeking expertise in a scientific approach to wellness that could come from a broader range of disciplines.Ideal candidates should have experience teaching undergraduate courses and an interest in innovative undergraduate instruction. The Lecturer will instruct in a combination of the following courses that fulfill the Wellness Requirement for Georgia Tech undergraduates. Scientific Foundations of Health (APPH 1040) is a large-lecture course (200+ students), where students learn how genetics, the environment and human behavior influence well-being. Topics include sustainable behavior change, mental health/stress management, health fitness, immunity, nutrition, and chronic disease prevention. In the Science of Physical Activity and Health (APPH 1050), students learn the importance of health fitness, nutrition, stress management and chronic disease prevention through both lecture and a weekly physical activity focused on training to improve fitness. Flourishing: Strategies for Well-being and Resilience (APPH 1060) helps students improve their health/well-being and flourish by using conceptual pillars such as coping, resiliency, optimism, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence.Primary responsibilities include lecture preparation and instruction for wellness courses, administrative oversight (specific to courses taught), and mentorship of teaching assistants assigned to the course. This position also has the potential to contribute to courses in the Biology or Neuroscience curriculum, given expertise and programmatic need. Topics could include but are not limited to the Biological Basis of Public Health, Global Health Issues, Anatomy, Nutrition, Kinesiology, Introductory Biology, and Genetics. Lecturers teach the equivalent of 24 credits per year (Summer, Fall, Spring).Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is a renewable, 12-month, non-tenure-track appointment.

Required Qualifications





Candidates must have an M.S. or Ph.D in a relevant field.
