Radiology; less than 1 year in CT preferred License: ARRT
Radiography, ARRT Computed Tomography Certifications: Basic Life
Support (BLS) Must-Have: Excellent communication skills. Ability to
function independently and under pressure. Detail-oriented and
capable of multitasking. Understanding of anatomy and pathology.
Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure
factors, and radiation protection. Description: Must be flexible
with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable,
accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe,
age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according
to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly
and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for
performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring
independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization
of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to
independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide
imaging service and positions patients for procedures. Core
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Verifies proper clinician
order for procedure. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers
examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast
media to ensure patient safety. Ensures all studies have proper
patient identification and markers are utilized appropriately.
Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results
and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and assists
with maintaining life support equipment. Observes patient condition
and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary.
Verifies correct identity of patients using two unique identifiers
prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient's privacy and
comfort are accommodated. Maintains patient dignity throughout the
exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in the determination and
application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and
techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule and priorities
to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and
exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power
injection. Uses critical thinking skills and dialogues with
patients and families. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out
process when appropriate. Prepares the patient for procedures and
demonstrates sterile technique. Maintains competency with
venipuncture. Equipment: Demonstrates ability to adjust technique
to minimize ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment for timely
correction. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment per
infection control policy. Education and Communication: Clearly
explains purpose and nature of exams to patients before procedures
to minimize anxiety. Addresses patients' questions, concerns, or
contraindications satisfactorily. Participates in training of
departmental employees. Provides preparatory instruction and
explanation of procedures. Ensures required documentation is
concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Completes mandatory
education without prompting. Quality Control: Consistently produces
acceptable images based on radiologist feedback and quality audits.
Ensures equipment is fully operational before each use. Sends all
studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as
needed. Completes studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
Operations: Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining the
department in clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions
patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables. Performs
patient charging activities on the day of service. Applies
shielding, supportive devices, and equipment as necessary.
Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others as required.
Performs routine clerical and support duties as needed to ensure
continuity of services. Keeps supervisor informed about
responsibilities, notifying them of any potential problems.
Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to co-workers.
Operates all workstations associated with the CT department.
Maintains Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agency
standards. Takes call when necessary. Performs other duties as
assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code
