Job Title: Sonographer Profession: Sonographer Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm Experience: Minimum 1 year clinical experience License: Registered Medical Sonographer or ARRT Sonography Certifications: Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor Must-Have: - Graduate of an accredited Sonography Program - Excellent communication skills - Ability to function independently and under pressure - Excellent customer service skills - Detail-oriented and able to multitask Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams per department protocols. Possesses the knowledge and ability to obtain quality diagnostic studies safely. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Verifies proper clinician orders for procedures. Obtains complete clinical histories, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate markers. Reviews ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations for physician intervention. Ensures patients' privacy and comfort are maintained, respecting their dignity throughout exams. Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures and techniques based on patients' ages. Organizes schedules and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physicians' instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Uses critical thinking skills and communicates effectively with patients and families. Addresses patients' questions, concerns, or contraindications satisfactorily, notifying physicians when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides preparatory instructions and explanations to patients. Ensures required documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Reads emails daily as scheduled and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education independently. Quality Control: Consistently produces acceptable images as evidenced by feedback and quality audits. Ensures equipment is fully operational before use by checking for calibration and deficiencies. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion. Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS. Maintains quality control logs for probe disinfection and follows infection control policies. Operations: Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderly department. Transports and positions patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day of service. Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment as needed. Assists others routinely, using time effectively for departmental advantage. Performs clerical and support duties as necessary to ensure continuity and quality of services. Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities regularly, notifying them of any problems. Maintains productivity comparable to co-workers. Maintains Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agency standards. Takes call when necessary. Equipment: Demonstrates the ability to adjust techniques to ensure patient safety and image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisors for timely correction. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment following infection control policies. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all departmental policies, standards of work, and codes of conduct.
