a better future. BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee
(IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps
people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40
countries and 26 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope,
the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office
was established in 1979 and has resettled over 30,000 refugees from
over 65 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. As the largest
refugee resettlement agency in Georgia, the IRC in Atlanta
resettles an average of 1000 refugees into Georgia annually and
provides additional services and assistance to another 2,500
refugees and asylees. SCOPE OF SCHOOL ENROLLMENT INTERN INTERN
WORK: This internship is located within the Youth Services
department. The School Success program provides a crucial bridge
between newly arrived refugee families and local schools, ensuring
that each child gains access to education and has a positive start
to their academic journey in the U.S. Within My New School, our
School Enrollment and School Success Casework teams provide support
to families enrolling in school, changing schools, accessing school
resources, and navigating 504 and IEP processes for students with
disabilities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Support IRC staff with both client-facing and
administrative program delivery including but not limited to:
planning student and parent workshops/orientation s, assist ing
parents with enrollment applications and activities via phone,
office visits, or fieldwork, conducting home visits with families,
locating relevant community services and events, and developing
client education materials and presentations. Work collaboratively
with parents to engage them in their children’s education and
empower them to be confident and independent with school
interactions. Recognize the unique needs of newcomer families and
make referrals to wrap-around services where necessary. Work with
interpretation to provide support to English learners. Enter data
into IRC database and team-specific spreadsheets. Provide general
administrative support, such as updating and maintaining client
files. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Strong computer
skills, particularly MS Office suite and databases. Comfort with
developing presentations, resource sheets, and informational
packets for audiences of students, parents, and school staff.
Flexibility and strong organizational skills with attention to
detail and an ability to work independently. Strong telephone
etiquette and verbal communication skills. Comfort with working in
a cross-cultural environment. Comfort working with school-aged
children and their parents. Must have a valid driver’s license, a
reliable vehicle, and be able to transport clients. Submit intern
hours on volunteer dashboard. Non-English language skills and/or
experience with special education is a bonus, but not .
REQUIREMENTS: Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal. Must
pass a background check. Commitment of 15 hours per week for a
minimum of 3 consecutive months. Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that
we are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization.
This is an in-person role. This position will report to the School
Success Coordinator. The internship will be filled on a rolling
basis. We will continue to accept applications until April 10 th ,
2026, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first.
